Fell Pony Syndrome found in Dales Pony |
Fell Pony
Syndrome is believed to have been found in a Dales pony foal. It is
the first time the disease has spread to a different breed. Fell pony
syndrome affects the immune system of young foals and the initial
symptoms include diarrhoa, weight loss and coughing. It is believed
to be caused by a genetic defect and the outcome is always fatal as
it doesn't respond to treatment.. The Animal Health Trust in
Newmarket reported a case where the Dales pony foal had anaemia,
diarrhoea and pneumonia which are the advance stages of the disease.
The post mortem confirmed typical signs of the disease in the pony. |
